FAQ

How much does a food trailer cost?

Trailer prices vary and depend on several factors. Size of trailer, equipment needed, and interior options are all factors that influence overall cost. We would be happy to meet with you for a free consultation.

Can Via Trailers supply food preparation equipment?

Yes, we have relationships within the food service industry and we are able to supply and install high-end restaurant grade cooking equipment, such as True Mfg., Pitco, Garland, and more. You tell us what you are planning on cooking and we will make sure you have the proper equipment and design for the job.

Does your concession trailer meet provincial regulations?

Yes, we have all of our trailers certified and tagged by ESA and TSSA (two provincial regulators) for food service before they leave the lot.

Some events and municipalities have additional or varying regulations, such as health codes, and it is up to the purchaser to inform Via Custom Trailers of any regulations or restrictions within your operating area.

How do I get my trailer approved by TSSA and ESA?

Via Custom Trailers, as part of the concession trailer purchase, takes charge of this process. Each trailer is inspected by ESA and TSSA while still at our location; done before you take final delivery.

Upon successful completion of TSSA and ESA inspections, certificates of compliance are placed in your file. There is a fee charged for both of these inspections. Trailers without a propane system do not require TSSA.

How long will it take to build a food concession trailer?

Lead times for concession trailers depend on what time of year they are ordered. Generally it can take 8-10 weeks in the off season, however that lead time is extended the closer we get to the spring rush. Keep in mind that you will want some time to work out your service needs before you book an event or open for business. We do not recommend booking events before you are 100% comfortable with the use and operation of your trailer.

I have seen ads for imported trailers from the States; will Via compete with these trailers on price?
We try to be as competitive as possible on most of our products, but it has been our experience that the base cost advertised is not what the true cost actually ends up being. Electrical, plumbing, and safety standards are not the same in Canada as they are in the US; as a result many costly imports which do not meet CSA standards are not allowed to operate in Canada. Unfortunately, buyers do not find this out until they fail inspection leaving little or no time to make repairs before you need the trailer. Via ensures our trailers meet, or exceed, all regulations.

In addition, the price not only covers the purchase of the trailer, but also our expertise. Via has helped shape the methodology of TSSA inspections by participating on a panel. All work being done to construct a mobile food trailer is done by highly skilled licensed tradespeople, which facilitates meeting TSSA and ESA regulations. And lastly, our relationship does not end when you pull off the lot. Your investment is also upheld by Via, which stands behind their products and is a quick email or phone call away.

Our reputation is built on providing strong value in goods and services for your dollar, and meticulous service. At Via, we’re behind you all the way!

What do I need to get started?

We require a deposit payable by cash, certified cheque, money order, or bank draft. A confirmation of funding approval from the financial company is also acceptable. Next, we create detailed prints and work with our customers until they are 100% accurate. Once the prints are signed by the customer the trailer is scheduled for production.
